Big news…

Posted by Paul on 3rd January 2006

Some fairly big political news: Abramoff pled guilty today in a deal.

This is a big deal, because this guy was about as crooked as they come- and he’s tied in with a LOT of the Republican leadership. DeLay is going down, many of the other Republicans are linked, and their slush funds and illegal graft is going to be outed.

I don’ t understand what more it will take to convince the American people, but it seems like every time you turn around something else comes out… so I’m sure we’ll have more news soon.

Woof woof…

One thing that I was pretty concerned about when I moved from my house, which was on a 1/3 acre lot with a huge fenced yard, to a downtown condo, was how it would affect my dog.

Indiana the Wonder Dog is a Golden Retriever. Fortunately, he’s 4 years old, which means he’s mostly out of his crazy nutty puppy phase and able to chill a bit more. Goldens are such sweet dogs most of the time that I wasn’t too worried about the move, but I have to admit that I had an excellent backup plan. My dad and stepmom own a Golden- from Indy’s litter, in fact. His sister Abbey is also a sweet, sweet dog and they get along really well, so if Indy couldn’t have handled the city Dad said that he could go live with them.

I’d be heartbroken, of course, but I also wouldn’t abuse my dog so if it’d come to that I would have done it.

Fortunately, it hasn’t. Indy has done quite well with the move. I hired a gal to be a dogwalker/housecleaner for me, and she TOTALLY ROCKS. She loves dogs, loves Indy, and comes once a day to take him out for a nice little 20-30 minute walk. Plus she cleans, does laundry, changes the sheets… you name it. (I have more to say about having a housekeeper, but that’s another post.)

Indy is lucky in that we live right by Qwest Field, and there’s a nice couple of patches of lawn out there just a couple of minutes out the door for him to use when he’s got to do his business. The north parking lot is really big and I can let him off the leash when there’s nobody around, and he can run around and sniff the bushes and chase animals… I’m pretty sure they’re rats. Which reminds me, I have to keep up with his rabies shots.

There’s also off-leash dog parks that we get to on a moderately frequent basis, although one of my resolutions for this year is to get him out there more often. Of course there’s always weekends in the spring and summer, when I try to get out and do something active with him.

The condo is pretty big- over 1,600 square feet- and fairly long, so he can run full-tilt if he wants to from one end to the other. He doesn’t do it that often, of course. :)

All in all, while I was worried, I think he’s got a pretty good life in the city. It’s probably not as much fun as it was in Enumclaw, but it’s still pretty good for him. He gets lots of love and attention, of course; I think my girlfriend might like him better than she likes me. I’m not too jealous of this; he’s more loveable than I am, too.
