You had to figure…

…that someone would sue the makers of the “Borat” movie. Well, here come the lawsuits.

I saw the movie last weekend, and it is absolutely hysterical. Most or all of the people in the movie don’t really realize what’s going on, and they genuinely thought it was being filmed by a Kazakh crew and that “Borat” really was who he said he was. The things that people say in the movie are both funnier than hell and a bit disturbing; funny because Sacha Baron Cohen, the star of the film, gets people to make utter and complete fools of themselves, and disturbing because it exposes an underbelly of racism, sexism, and hatred that exists in America.

I think almost everyone should see the movie. George W Bush should definitely see it. Dick Cheney should probably skip it, the humor would stop his heart.

One of the trailers…

Anyway… go see it, you’ll laugh.

The Blue Wave

Posted by Paul on 10th November 2006

The more you look at the election, the more it is clear how completely the Republicans got their butts KICKED.

In Washington, the state Senate went from 26 Democrats and 23 Republicans to having 31 Democrats and 18 Republicans.

In the state House it went from 56-41 in favor of the Democrats to 63-34 for the Dems.

That, folks, is pretty amazing. And this story is repeated in legislatures around the country, where the Dems control both houses in 23 states while the Republicans only have 16. 9 states have mixed government, where each party controls one house. Yes, that only adds up to 48 states; I know one state has a non-partisan legislature, and I don’t know what happened to the ohter state. :)

The point here is that the Democrats have made some pretty big gains. Now they have a bigger challenge- to govern well enough to maintain this majority.

Luckily for Democrats, pretty much all states require a balanced budget- no racking up debt. So the challenge for the Dems all around will be to balance the various budgets without raising taxes much or at all. The problem is that since most Republicans hate government and think it’s evil, and most Democrats think that government can do good things, when the Dems are in charge the temptation is to create lots of new programs… which cost lots of money.

But the first thing is to get into the command position, and with this election they’ve done that. Let’s work to keep them on track and improving things everywhere.
